Tip #1 - Book Your Rental in Advance.

Whether you're driving in from another state or flying in from overseas, the best deals are those made in advance.

Why? As well as being able to take the time to compare deals online or even over the phone, once you've made your reservation it's a done deal, it's a set price and you know what you're paying. However, if you leave it until you're there, you're at the mercy of availability and the demand and supply of the ecomony at that time.

Tip # 2 - Weekly Rates Could be Cheaper

If you only need a car for three or four days, be sure to check what the weekly rate is. It could be cheaper than paying the daily rate. Many companies will let you hire a car for three days or more at the weekly rate.

Tip # 3 - Compare Over the Phone, Online and Get Discount Codes

Many of us are familiar with comparing prices online. As with flights and hotels reservations, comparing Orlando rental cars online is no different.

The best internet comparison sites are Expedia, Orbitz and the specialized sites dedicated just to car rentals such as Rental Car Momma, which has discount rates and special deals running frequently on Orlando rental cars.

The trick is to get the car rental price from:-

• The car rental company over the phone;
• The car rental companies own webiste;
• The internet price for that particular rental deal;
• .....now you have at least 3 prices for your chosen dates. Call around the companies and ask if they have any further offers, discounts or special deals. You will never know if you don't ask! Tip # 4 - Check Your Existing Insurance

Check you own car insurance policy and your credit card terms and conditions to see if they cover you when renting a car. Whether you're already living in the US or visiting from abroad, usually your auto insurance coverage will extend to renting a car. If so, decline the companies' insurance - you will most likely be paying for coverage you already have!

If you plan to use your major credit card's insurance coverage, make sure to reserve the car using that credit card. Otherwise, the credit card company will not cover you!

Also, the Loss Damage Waiver or (LDW) also known in some states as the Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) can usually be declined. It is a transferal of responsibility that transfers the liability from the renter to the company for any damage to the vehicle. In most cases, you’re better off taking your chances with your own insurance and paying your own deductible than relying on a document loaded with loopholes that favor the rental company.
