The New Harry Potter Theme Park

The new Harry Potter theme park is set to open in spring 2010. This new development within Universal Island of Adventure, Orlando is called the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.




It's currently under construction as we speak. There are many exciting developments taking place within Islands of Adventure. Bit by bit the new Harry Potter park is taking shape.

If you're a fan of the books, the movies (or maybe both!) you'll certainly recognize many of the famous landmarks, buildings and characters that will be created in this new land.

Above is the street scene of Hogsmeade complete with little shops and restaurants. Below is the artists impression of Hogwart's Castle. There is rumoured to be a new ride built inside Hogwart's Castle called 'Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey'. It's going to be some sort of 'robocoaster' ride through darkness with amazing special effects!

Where Will The Harry Potter Theme Park Go?

Universal Island of Adventure has 5 disctinct 'lands' around a central lake. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is being built partly over some of the Lost Continent island, partly over the employee parking lot and some unused ground at the very back of the theme park. The new land will be 20 acres, which is bigger than all the existing individual lands. This will really be 'A theme park within a theme park'.



The Lost Continent up until now has been a mix of 'worlds gone by' including Medieval Eurpope, Mythical Greece and ancient Arabia.

In the Medieval area, which has the Dueling Dragons roller coaster and the Flying Unicorn kids' roller coaster, there are major changes and developments happening.

The Enchanted Oak restaurant has gone to make way for the new Three Broomsticks restaurant in Hogsmeade.

The iconic two Dueling Dragon's have gone from the entrance to the Dueling Dragons ride. We will have to see what takes their place. But, the good news is that the Dueling Dragons ride is still open and operating. It may have to close temporarily to allow the transformation to take place.  Rumours indicated it may be called 'Dragon's Challenge' and be themed in much darker colors.

The Dueling Dragons is going to be incorporated into the new Harry Potter theme park. The Flying Unicorn will also be re-styled and renamed - possibly being called the 'The Flying Hippogriff'.
